Constantly encouraging, the balance of tight, precision driving and a free-wheeling mood makes it a pleasure to bounce around from race to race, using all kinds of cars. Just over two years after launch, Forza Horizon 4's "just drive and have fun" mandate is just as inviting as it was at the time. The Xbox One X gave us a glimpse of next-gen gaming by allowing us to choose between these two technical advancements, but the Series X gives us the complete picture by combining them to make games that are incredibly detailed and smooth. At 60 frames per second, the more fluid animation intensifies the sense of speed that builds when you shift into high gear, whether you're gracefully drifting around sharp turns on Edinburgh's streets or launching off a ramp in the English countryside. (And it was already quite a looker.) In 4K, every detail looks sharp, from the stone walls you'll bust through every time you take a bad angle on a turn to the dials on your car's dash when you take a tour of the interior in your garage. It's the best of both worlds, and the best Forza Horizon 4 has ever looked. It's surely a lot more fun than the subject matter would suggest, and if you can complete it with all 30 stars you can unlock a special reward in the shape of a crash test dummy outfit.Editor's note: With the launch of the Xbox Series X and S, Forza Horizon 4 has been optimized to take advantage of the next-gen hardware. It introduces a new character, a German auto engineer, and is based on the super glamorous world of car insurance. Getting stars in the story will go towards your completion, and additionally, it's another business that will generate daily credits to add to your balance. If you're pushed into the wall by another player you won't suffer the penalty, though.Īdditionally, if you're going far too fast into a corner, either to wall ride or to deliberately ram another player, you should now be ghosted so you don't hit anyone else.

If you're deemed to be trying to wall ride you'll now get a slowdown penalty and be ghosted so as not to interfere with other players. The only surface is doesn't apply to is trees. The new system will kick in to prevent obvious advantages from going far too fast into a corner and using the wall to keep the momentum going. As of Update 9, wall riding will be penalized thanks to a new system being implemented in online multiplayer. If you've been getting unfair advantages in races by exploiting "wall riding" then there's bad news in store.
